My artwork refers to a number of traditions, among them European and American Modernist painting, textile printing, and Japanese Edo woodblock prints. Borrowing from these traditions and drawing on art historical, political and personal references to create something of my own, I am revealing my curiosity and interests in Nature, science and popular culture.
Ideas of hybridity are central to my artwork and I juxtapose images from my “memory bank” to create a satisfying interplay of pattern, shapes and colour.
I favour strong shapes, graphic designs, and rhythmic bold lines. Compositional geometry dominates and I generally have little or no interest in achieving accurate perspective or truly realistic representation.
